Classes
Feb. 10
My friend Klecko is founder of the St. Paul Bread Club and production manager of the Saint Agnes Baking Co. in St. Paul. Together, we'll be teaching three 45-minute classes at the Mill City Museum in downtown Minneapolis on Feb. 10, from 1-4 p.m. We're going to take a look ahead towards Valentine's Day with some sweeter baked goods, working with biscotti, madeleines and scones. The sessions are free although there is an admission charge to the museum. Go to www.millcitymuseum.org.
March 2
Klecko and I are teaming up again for a class we like to call Decadent Baking, exploring some of the more elegant individual baked goods -- madeleines, crepes and puff pastry. The class is at Cooks of Crocus Hill, 877 Grand Ave. in St. Paul. Go to www.cooksofcrocushill.com
Big News on Feb. 24
On the fourth Monday of each month, join me and my special guests for a monthly cookbook review, in the lower level of Barnes & Noble Bookstore in the Galleria shopping center in Edina. On Feb. 25, we'll begin at 7 p.m. talking about Bread Instead and several cookbooks that inspire veteran bakers and encourage new recruits. Joining me will be Solveig Tofte, head baker at Turtle Bread who soon will be competing against the world's best bread bakers as member of the 2008 Bread Bakers Build of America Team USA. I'm also delighted to have Marie Wolf on hand. I met Marie through her blog, www.breadbasketcase.com, as she set out to bake all of the breads in Rose Levy Berenbaum's "The Bread Bible" in the course of one year. She did it, and her experiences and insights into bread-baking made for entertaining, and mouth-watering, reading all year.
